PicTex

Commissioned to create a Logo and Brand for a developing App/website called PicTex. The application combines Imagery and Text together by scanning written "statuses" and highlighting key words and automatically providing a picture from the web to accompany the text instantaneously. Their target market is centered around young adults who utilize social media religiously.

Brainstorm

I brainstormed four types of logo concepts: Solid-negative, Conventional, Edgy-Hipster and the typical 'Signature' Logo. I wanted the logo to reflect the main elements of the App, which is imagery and text combined as well as appeal to the target audience. This meant creating a logo that displays the mechanics of text/typography whilst displaying some form of imagery.

Development

I was given this screenshot of their website to begin with. My commissioner wanted to keep the colour scheme of grey and black with red accents and to have the logo placed on the main header of the site. The two main logos that caused a debate within their group was the 'impossible image' logo and the 'smiley face icon'. I personally felt that smiley face icon would be a better fit to their App because it combined text and imagery seamlessly as well as creating a cheeky personality to appeal to a younger generation.

I experimented with the different looks of the logo and the ratios between the

sizes of the text compared to the logo.

Using a gradient to add dimension to the logo, the chosen concept was furthered

developed and had the choice of being backed with a flat shadow or a solid shadow.

The flat shadowing fit the related to the ideals of the overall design, but the

solid backing was picked due to it having a more precise and clean appearance

which appealed to my commissioner and suited the vast negative space on their website front.

I experimented with a pixelated texture to add more vibrancy to the website which was quickly refused as it looked too messy and didn't relate to the brand.
