Odd Daphne
Commissioned by Josh Iosefo, I was tasked of creating a film poster to promote his screen play
Odd Daphne. The main character (Daphne) is Polynesian cake decorator, but is heavily influenced by Japanese and K-pop culture so Josh wanted a 'Manga' inspired poster.
Based off of his character descriptions, I knew I would have to define the character designs before I begin mock ups of posters designs. I experimented with different character looks
according to the given criteria. The three main characters are Kathy who is the head-strong friend, Damien the caring younger brother and Daphne who is the quirky, "Kawaii" main character.

After the character designs were finalised I mocked up three possible poster designs for Josh to choose from. There were many possibilities because the poster could have a different number of characters residing within it and the story of the poster changes. So he had to choose if it was a singular poster of Daphne, her and Damien or the whole group.

Final Sketch

It did not come without complications though. The original coloured piece ticked the boxes of being Anime inspired, centred around cake and involved all three main characters. There was not enough Polynesian elements visible to the eye. This set back inspired to look at Samoan tapas and different colourings for skin tones to achieve a more cultural look to the poster.
Final Poster

After a careful revaluation of the Odd Daphne Concept, an change of branding occurred. This led to a change of contract and I signed on as an Art Director for Odd Daphne. So a New Poster was created for theater venues and social media.

The rebranding needed to retain its playfulness with colour but still remain accurate with its representation of Pasifika and Oceanian culture. This resulted in a more realistic art style and an inclusive brand.

These concepts seemed too 'comic book' rather than a cohesive brand and after further development the posters were transformed into an urban and sophisticated design.

Printing

Brochures were created as a physical momento for audiences to take away. I also created small 'Sign up cards' for viewers to use in order to forward their details for Mental Health Training.

Odd Daphne Season 2
With the popularity and success of Odd Daphne season 1, the next season of the production brought a higher budget and an extensive layout of props, merchandise and set design. The stage was bigger and the demand for an cohesive set design was needed. This was very exciting as it allowed me to explore different ways to roll out creative and problem solve logistics and production under intense deadlines.
